Below are some of the questions that tend to crop up at our client meetings.
We have created this section to give you a better understanding of us,
the way we work and the techniques we use.

What is HTML?
|
| |
HTML is the lingua franca of the Net. It's a simple, universal
mark-up language that allows Web publishers to create complex pages
of text and images that can be viewed by anyone else on the Web,
regardless of what kind of computer or browser is being used.

Q.
|
What is DHTML?
|
|
|
Dynamic HTML is simply HTML that can change even after a page has
been loaded into a browser. A paragraph could turn blue when the
mouse moves over it, or a header could slide across the screen.
Anything that can be done in HTML can be redone after the page loads.

What is Flash?
|
| |
Macromedia Flash is the Web standard for vector graphics and animation.
Web designers use Macromedia Flash to create beautiful, resizable,
and extremely compact navigation interfaces, technical illustrations,
long-form animations, and other dazzling effects for their site.
Macromedia Flash files can play back with the Macromedia Shockwave
Player or Java.

What is PHP?
|
|
|
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. Much of its syntax
is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP-specific
features thrown in. The goal of the language is to allow web developers
to write dynamically generated pages quickly.

What is MySQL?
|
|
|
The MySQL database server is the world's most widely used open
source database. Its ingenious software architecture makes it extremely
fast and easy to customize. Extensive reuse of code within the software
and a minimalistic approach to produce functionally rich features
have resulted in a database management system unmatched in speed,
compactness, stability and ease of deployment. The unique separation
of the core server from the table handler makes it possible to run
MySQL under strict transaction control or with ultrafast transactionless
disk access, whichever is most appropriate for the situation.

Q.
|
What is Java Script??
|
|
|
With JavaScript, images can swap when you move a cursor over them,
form elements can influence each other on the fly, and calculations
can be made without having to resort to a CGI script. There's none
of this submit-and-wait stuff - everything happens on your Web page
while you're playing with it.

What is Apache?
|
|
|
Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since
April of 1996. The February 2001 Netcraft
Web Server Survey found that 60% of the web sites on the Internet
are using Apache (around 62% if Apache derivatives are included),
thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined.

|
Surely Microsoft Servers are the best?
|
|
|
With the recent global risks of virus attacks on web servers we
place great emphasis on our clients online security. For this reason,
and the fact that there are so many widely reported security holes
in other systems, we use only Linux based servers running Apache,
the most secure combination available. Apache is not susceptible
to the likes of CodeRed and Nimda. If you are offered hosting, please
ensure that it is not based on Microsoft systems. If it is then
contact us!

Q.
|
Can you provide me with web hosting?
|
| |
We feel that hosting is best left to dedicated hosting companies.
They are good at what they do and we are good at what we do. If
a web design company tells you that they can provide hosting for
you they are probably just acting as resellers for their chosen
hosts. We don't believe in this business model, it only increases
costs to you and adds another step to the support process. We prefer
to introduce our customers to the hosting companies that we have
built up business relations with. We choose companies that offer
the best service and value. All hosting fees will be billed to you
direct, we do not add any additional markup as is the case with
the reseller model. The hosting companies we recommend are:
